Groomsport Primary and Glencraig Primary in Seahill have submitted proposals to the South Eastern Education and Library Board. The proposals are for them to become controlled integrated schools in September 2004.
If successful they will join Bangor Central Primary and Priory College in Holywood as controlled integrated schools.

Both applications for controlled integrated status and the development schemes were advertised recently in the Spectator. The adverts revealed that the first step of the process, a ballot of parents at both schools, had already been held.

The principal of Groomsport Primary, Robert Watson described the proposed change in the school's status as 'an exciting new development.'
He said the school had 'embraced the ethos of integrated education' to 'reflect the needs and wishes of the broadest possible community in the area.' He added: "We hope to provide a caring environment and a wide range of learning opportunities for all children to help them grow into independent, responsible adults who show tolerance and respect for all others."
